Know your song well

No Gravatar

There is no doubt that music is a basic and essential part of our humanity… but have you ever considered exactly how  that statement works.

I have just been listening to a virtuoso guitarist called John Renbourn

this piece is seriously difficult to play…..  WELL…..

I have tried…

There is an underlying base and an over tune, PLAYED BY ONE PERSON… all deliberate …. but at the same time played with FEELING

It is amazing that an artiste can achieve such a diverse and beautiful sound with just one instrument.

What does that tell you

In terms of Internet Marketing..

The same tune can be copied by many … it is the way it is played that counts…. very few actually compose the tune … many try and replicate…

So long as you understand and feel the music then…. you can play… with practice… first with other’s compositions… then develop your own.

Music is a progressive thing.. now and then a genius moves thing on on leaps and bounds

Very few things in life are truly original

We as Internet  Marketers can learn that things are a progression and we can play the tune in our own way

To paraphrase the words of Bob Dylan (Hard rain)

Know your song well before you start singing.

Then you have something to say… the world is becoming smaller because of the www and social media and thus more personal.

It doesn’t matter if your song is not understood initially

Understanding and having control of the instrument and knowing  your song….. will sooner or later attract others who know or feel  the same.

Music is like our business

There is an overture but within it there are a multitude of sub theams that our listeners can hear… at times we listen to the whole at others we hear just one sub-beat. There is a base line  and flourishes all carefully played and blended to achieve the desired result.

But the overriding tune and how it is played… is the thing that attracts or otherwise. Once the artiste has our ears then we  will listen to the rest of the tune.

Before you listen to the piece below I think you should know the name of it  … hec

Don’t listen to this if you are stressed or on a blogging mission

You MUST not listen to this if you are surrounded by the usual things in life

Listen to it on your own….

get a cup of whatever you drink relax

…then… imagine….

  1. Thanks for the music post, you have given so many points which describe themeselves benefit of music.

When I feel tired, I listen to music and then I feel relaxed so it has really great power which we should understand, for every festival there is different music, for example, music of marriage party, music of independence day, music of birthday party, music of love etc.

  2. Hi Vince
A very nicely composed post and I enjoyed the hermit.
The internet marketing mix is complex just like music.
You get great internet marketing genius just as you do in music.
And I suppose you also get very many good marketers and musicians.
Good luck in the challenge and in your business.
    All the best

Great analagy you have used here. I have used a mentor (Alex Jeffreys) in order to guide my “song” and practising from there I am developing further my own style and tune which i hope others are beginning to hear.
    Thanks for the useful thoughts,

    Hi Vince,

Interesting analogy and a nice approach to writing.

I think that there is some connection in how we play the instrument with how we play the internet marketing game.

We need to learn the song well.

Music is more transparent though and things can’t be manipulated or hidden as they sometimes are in business.

Nice to know that you too play the guitar.

  5. Vince, this is one of the most original ways of expressing IM that I have read. Well done. I enjoyed listening to the composition. It is very complex, just like the IM giant.

Great analogy of using music as the foundation for looking at internet marketing… We must know our song and make sure our note/plans are executed on schedule… as planned. I love the idea of the musical aspect of it… Life is full of twists and turns with high and low notes so being focused is important. Excellent approach! Thanks.

  7. Hi Vince,

I liked that you associated music with business as the integration of both your knowledge and skill will grow with practice over time. Just like marriage as I put it in terms of blogging, the relationship you build throughout your quest, keeps you grounded and wise. Thanks so much for sharing ‘The Hermit’. I enjoyed it.

See you beyond the 100th comment!

    Hi Vince

I have always regretted not learning to play an instrument as I am a big music fan, especially jazz. I envy talent such as John Renbourn and other great musicians.

As you analagize IM is like music, you need to learn and perfect before you are ready for the stage. Only then will your audience/list take notice of you.

    Regards

      Hi Bill
As you know it is not just talent… it is hard work and dedication that makes the difference between a talented Artiste and a great one. I think that you are right to a certain degree regarding perfection…. By that I mean, perhaps perfect or at least master the tune… but that will never completly master the instrument, or indeed the audience. Lets face it there are plenty of people out there who have no talent at all making money, perhaps their talent is not to care to much about perfection??, I think we all learn as we go along… there is no such thing as perfection
Thank you for visiting I will hop over to read your blog(looking forward to it)

    Hi Vince,

Love the way you compare our work to MUSIC. Music soothes the soul and so should our business! (hopefully)

I think the biggest problem, that’s causing the most confusion, is new internet marketers want to teach internet marketing – but they haven’t quite grasped the idea themselves. They need to practice their song a little more… even some of the more seasoned ones need to try a new tune every now and then!

Great post, I will definitely remember this comparison.
